How To Get Rid Of Brain Fog So You Feel Normal Again

Apr 14, 2024

Brain fog is a very strange and unusual sensation because it feels like your brain is actually foggy or cloudy. This makes thinking, focusing, and remembering things far more difficult. So, we’re going to talk about why you’re experiencing the symptoms of brain fog, and how to get rid of it so you can go back to having that mental clarity that you’re used to having.

Before we get started, I want to thank you so much for joining me today, and as a gift to you, I have provided the full Five-Step Cure to Anxiety and Panic Attacks in the link below. It’s completely free and I’m giving it to you because I want you to fully recover from all the symptoms of anxiety, including brain fog.

Alright, when you’re suffering from anxiety, you can find yourself experiencing brain fog for months or even years. But assuming that your brain fog is related to your anxiety, I want to assure you that this is a very normal, and extremely common symptom of anxiety.

When I was personally struggling with anxiety, brain fog really affected my life. It felt like my brain wasn’t working and I’d have difficulty doing even basic things. I had trouble reading the newspaper and performing simple work tasks. I’d also constantly be forgetting things, and was forced to write things down if I wanted to remember them. This was all very alarming, and if you’re like me, you’ll start to think that something is physically wrong with your brain.

So the questions I get asked the most are, “How do I get rid of my brain fog? How can I go back to thinking clearly?” The simple answer is that your brain fog is going to disappear as you begin recovering from anxiety. As you recover, your brain fog will go away and you’ll never have to worry about it again, I promise.

Alright, the reason you have brain fog is because of the effect anxiety has on your energy levels. So, when you have anxiety, your fight-or-flight response is malfunctioning. It is acting like you are being threatened or you’re in danger, so it releases a ton of excess adrenaline and stress hormones into your body to try to keep you safe. So, you’re mind and body are not able to relax. Instead, all the adrenaline and the stress hormones put you in a state of fear and tension, and your brain just keeps cycling through an endless amount of worries and what-if thoughts.

In this anxious state, your brain is consuming loads and loads of energy. So, what happens is, after weeks or months of suffering from anxiety, you’re energy levels become significantly depleted and you find yourself exhausted. That’s when this brain fog starts - in this state of fatigue and exhaustion. You begin experiencing brain fog because your brain simply doesn’t have the energy it needs to think clearly, and that creates this sensation of brain fog.

Alright, let’s recap what I just explained. I’m telling you that your anxious state has, over time, depleted your energy levels such that your brain doesn’t have the energy and resources it needs to operate normally. That’s it. That’s why you have brain fog.

Once you learn this, it then makes sense why brain fog is not one of the first symptoms to appear when you develop anxiety. Instead, you begin to experience brain fog only after anxiety has worn you down, typically after a month or more of severe anxiety. But here’s the good news, your brain fog is going to disappear as you recover from anxiety and your energy levels improve. So no, you are not stuck with brain fog. It will completely go away and you will regain your mental clarity.

Here’s what I don’t want you to do: don’t make the mistake of focusing on trying to get rid of your brain fog. A lot of anxiety sufferers make this mistake. But remember what I just told you, the underlying cause of your brain fog is your anxiety - brain fog is just a symptom of anxiety. With that said, here are your three action items for getting rid of brain fog:

  1. And most importantly, you need to get on the path to recovery from anxiety. That is ultimately going to permanently get rid of brain fog and all the other symptoms of anxiety. The path to recovery is a simple five-step process that I’ve provided in the link below. It will give you detailed and actionable steps on how to approach anxiety each time it shows up so you start desensitizing your nervous system. As you follow these steps, your brain fog is going to soon disappear and you will once again feel normal.
  2. Now that you know why you're experiencing brain fog, I do not want you to let this sensation scare you. If you allow yourself to become afraid and worry about brain fog, that will only make you more anxious, which in turn will make your brain fog even worse. Therefore, it’s really important you don’t let yourself become afraid of it. Instead, here’s what I want you to do: Whenever you experience brain fog and you start to worry about it, I want you to remind yourself that this sensation is temporary and not a sign of any underlying condition with your brain. That it’s going to go away as your energy levels improve during recovery.
  3. Get more sleep. Now, this is easier said than done, because many anxiety sufferers struggle to achieve good, restful sleep each night. But here is the equation: Good sleep helps to alleviate the symptoms of brain fog by improving our energy levels. Poor sleep increases the symptoms of brain fog by negatively affecting our energy levels. Fortunately, there is a way to get better sleep, and I’m going to cover that in my next episode so make sure you hit the subscribe button so you don’t miss that.

Thanks so much for following and I'll see you on the next post!
